Smallmouth were first transplanted east of the Appalachians just before the Civil War, and later introduced into New England, where the bass are also found in fast flowing rivers and streams. When smallmouth bass were introduced to northern rivers, they slowly became a popular fish with many anglers. The best Smallmouth bass fishing can be found in the middle and lower portions of the reservoir where the water is clearer. Canada provides some of the world's most excellent fishing grounds. Canadian smallmouth bass swim in some of the most scenic areas in Ontario. Canada smallmouth bass fish often leap after spinners off rock points in bays along the French River producing loads of fun for anglers.
